What quality should I expect of my digitized home movies?Home Movies VHS Tapes - 333 x 480 pixels VHS-C Tapes - 333 x 480 pixels Betamax - 333 x 486 pixels Hi8 Tapes - 400 x 480 pixels Today's Standards HD - 1280 x 720 pixels Ultra HD - 920 x 1080 pixels 4k - 3840 x 2160 pixels These resolutions are much lower than modern digital video standards, which is why digitized versions of these tapes won't match the quality of today's high-definition or ultra-high-definition videos. Fun Fact: Movie tape is magnetic ribbon that stores data in lines and columns. VHS tapes have 333 columns of data with 480 lines of data. (333x480) HD movies have 1280 columns of data with 720 lines of data (1280x720)

Why does my digitized video look grainy on my TV?Imagine you have a small picture and you stretch it to make it bigger. The picture will look blurry and you might see lots of tiny dots. This is similar to what happens with VHS videos on big screens. Since home movie tapes have fewer pixels, when you play them on a big screen, those pixels get stretched out. This makes the picture look grainy and less clear.
